Power Community Group

June 22, 2009

On the 23rd of June the Power Community Group came to talk to us about tobacco and how it affects everyone. The speakers were Mo’onia Gerrard, Wade Thompson, Matt Thomas and Jonathon Giles. They talked to us about the illnesses that you can get if you smoke tobacco. We also found out about the chemicals used in smoking ad what they are also used in. We also had to answer some questions about it. At the end they gave us their autographs. It was a great learning experience. What i got out of this talk was not to smoke in the future because it causes damage to your body.

On WednesdaY I am having my interview with my parents about my report. OH by the way we got our reports today and i am really happy with the grades that i got. I am especially happy with my effort grades. I got all 1s which is a really good thing. We have to do a 2 minute oral presentation which we have to present with our parent teacher interview. We have to include our Elearning Book, Strengths, introduction, Conclusion and approaches to learning. I cannot wait to do it.

Stormboy

June 15, 2009

This term we have been read the book Stormboy by Colin Thiele. Colin Thiele is a really famous Australian author he writes stories for children.  We are reading this book because it has to do with our Inquiry Unit. Why Is This Happening? Every week our teacher reads a chapter and we write down words that we don’t normally use in our everyday writing. We then have to recreate the paragraph using most of the words we have written down. It is a really fun activity.

Friday Afternoon Sport

June 9, 2009

Every term their is an activity called Friday Afternoon Sport. Which only year 7s participate in. Every term their is a different sport. The sports are Softball, Soccer and Netball. Their is no sport in term 4 because term 4 is a short term. This term their is Boys Soccer and Girls Netball.  Floppym and I are the coordinators of the soccer team. Which means we pick players positions and we are sort of the coaches of the team. Even though we are the coaches we play too. So far our team has played 3 games, we lost the first game to Richmond 3-4, the second game we won 3-1 against Flinders Park and the third game we won 5-1 against West Beach. 2 of our games have been cancelled because the schools have something on or can’t get transport. I think Friday Afternoon sport is a great way of keeping active during school time and it is really FUN!!!!!!!!!.

Maths : Percentages

June 9, 2009

In Maths my class has been learning about percentages. Percentages are a fraction of 100. We have been doing various excercises to help us learn about percentages. I have really enjoyed learning about percentages and this wil help me with shop sales and various other things. For example if at a shop a book was 50% off and it was $15.00, the price will be $7.50 because 50% off is half of the original price of the book.

Inquiry Task

May 28, 2009

This term our classes inquiry unit is WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?. Our inquiry unit is about the River Murray and what is currently happening to it. I think that this terms inquiry unit so far is very interesting because i didnt realise what has been happening to the River Murray and Murray Darling Basin. One of the tasks in this inquiry unit is reading an information text about the Murray River. We then have to underline words which were subject specific words. We then had to create a cover about the Murray, this had to look like a cover of a information Book. At the back of the cover we had to draw a map to show the Murray Darling Basin with a caption. We also had to draw a diagram of something to do with the Murray River with a caption. We then on a new page and at the end we had to create a glossary with the words that we had underlined from the Information text. This was a great idea and it was a really fun activity.

Camp

May 4, 2009

On the 29th April - 1st May my class went on camp to Hindmarsh Island. When we got to the campsite one of the instructers called Andrew gave us some instructions. We were then put into groups. All of the groups had to complete a problem-Solving activity. Our groups was hard but we used our pesistence to complete the task. Our next activity was Fishing. We 1st had to put the fishing rod together and then we could fish Andrew explained how toput it together well. After that activity we had a walk called the GSO Walk. We learnt about an aboriginal tribe and we then went to the beach. We then went back to the campsite to have dinner. After dinner we got a quiz, our group did really well. We then went to bed. I had a torrid time asleep because a few people kept me awake. The next morning we had breakfast, after that we went to our next activity which was Rope Bridges where we had to create a bridge between 2 trees. After that we went to the Murray Mouth and we learnt what is happening to the murray. Then it was time for lunch, after lunch we put wetsuits on and we went boogieboarding at Goolwa Beach it was really fun. Next was Raft Making where we made rafts and we raced them. Then we went on the bus to go back to camp for dinner. After dinner we had a tallent show it was really funny. We then went to sleep i had 8 hours sleep and didnt get interrupted. The next morning we had breakfast and then we had to clean up our dorms and pack up our bags. Because it was raining we played some games inside. They were really fun. We then went on the bus for the trip home. This was a great camp!!!!!!.

Inquiry Task

April 2, 2009

This term my classes inquiry question is What Does It Take To Be A Leader?. We have had to pick a leadership quote then write our opinions about it. After that we had to create a picture about what we thought the quote means and then display the quote on the picture we created. Here is my explanation and picture.

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote stood out for me because it is simple and it has an easy effective message.

I think that this quote means don’t copy other people but make your own choices. Otherwise the world of leadership would be really boring. This quote shows that you shouldn’t just sit back and copy others but make your own decisions and think for yourself. A great example is Barack Obama because he was the first black person to step up and become the president of America. He did not follow the other black people who were scared to run for president. But instead he took his own path and decided to run for presidency.  He has created a new destination for black people to take, because of his bravery and courage. Obama has inspired all the black people because of the choices he made. He has given the black people a new path to take. So therefore a leader is required to take risks instead of taking old paths but leaving a new trail behind.

Are Leaders Made Or Born

March 25, 2009

I will be telling you my opinion about the question, “Are Leaders Made Or Born?”

I think some leaders can be born because their mum or dad could of been a famous leader or already are a famous leader. For example Barack Obama’s children might grow up and be great leaders too, you never know.  I also think that leaders can be made because in school they could have been a student representative or a captain of a sports team. Or when they were young they could of been confident and risk takers. So do you think Leaders are Made Or Born? I think so……..
