I am from South Carolina and I didn’t know about 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Thank you so much for sharing this information because I find it really interesting!

Wow! Did I ever learn a lot from your post! I’ve been wondering exactly what the ten categories were about and you certainly helped me to understand that! In addition, your descriptions, images, and links really brought this teacher from Pennsylvania in the United States into the world of Australia. My favorite idea that you listed was Billabong, but mostly because my son, a surfer, also loves Billabong and their line of clothing. Small world itsn’t it?

I am learning about cricket reading your class blogs.
I went to Hawaii this year and saw lots of Billabong stuff. Its not something we typically see in St Louis MO.
Our Elementary school studied Australia and had a special day where we all sampled Vegemite- we weren’t crazy about it.
Thanks for sharing. This is a very nice post. I will share with our classes studying Australia.

Kosta! I like Marmite and that is the British version of Vegemite. I had it in Germany with relatives. We don’t see either one where I live in the USA though.
Your football sounds more complicated than our football. Do you have a big finale like our Superbowl?

I am from Cooperstown in New York State, which is considered the ‘Home of Baseball.’ I love reading about cricket and know too little about it. I found the Wikipedia entry for ‘howzat’ interesting – our appeals work a little differently in baseball.

We can protest a decision, which basically involves pleading one’s case to the umpire, but the umpires are under no obligation to entertain the challenge. It’s fun to watch, though. :)

Yes our football is a little complicated.

We do have a AFL Grand Final. Where the two teams who won all there games in the Finals play each other. They play at the MCG(Melbourne Cricket Ground).

    Hi Kosta,
You have done a great job on your post. My son has several Billybong hats, one of his favorites. When he was in college he had a Didgeridoo and he learned to play it fairly well which I found very hard to do. I liked the images you used too, very well thought out.

Great job! I am back in upstate NY but spent some time in China a few years ago. The expat community there helped me understand what many of the things you listed were! Your teacher gave a great assignment to you. I would love to do something like that with my students here (stay tuned).

As a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball team, whenever they get someone out, I find that I just say ‘Phew’!

Next year, when games start up again, and the Phillies are the returning Major League Baseball Champions, I’ll try to use ‘Howzat!’.

If it catches on, I’ll let you know…but Philadelphian are a fickle bunch.

    Great list!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hello Ken

    Thankyou for the comment.

What made you get into the Philadelphia Phillies????

By using the word phew is it a relief statement or a appeal.

    bye

  24. ken rodoff Said,

    November 14, 2008 @ 7:55 am

I’ve lived my entire life just outside of Philadelphia, so I’m a fan of all the teams from Philadelphia. In fact, growing up, my family had season tickets to every Phillies game!

“Phew” is a used to indicate relief, like if I just avoided getting in to a car accident, I might say,”Phew, that was close one”.

‘Phew’ sounds a lot like a quick exhale of air.
